S6F
By: Brian Fields

Thanks to Alder Creek for letting me demo their S6F 192
The S6F is the new Pyranha playboat design for 2004. It is going to come in three sizes 191, 192, 193.

At Playboating Northwest we realize there's paddlers of different shapes, sizes, and abilities. Unfortunately only one tester was available to test out this boat.

Outfitting: Pyranha’s Syncro 04 outfitting is setting the standard for the industry. The seat is amazingly comfortable (ergomonic is good) and easily adjusted to where your butt needs to be in the boat. The thigh braces can be adjusted in a couple of different directions to accommodate your choice of leg positions. It is nice to see that the thigh braces don’t prevent you knees from getting into the knee bumps along side the combing (cock rim) like some other companies thigh braces do. The back band is solid, comfortable and easy to adjust when you are in the boat. The hip pads that come with the boat ride a little low for me, though you can fix that with a little duct tape. All of the outfitting that comes with the boat is of the highest quality except for the foot brace system. I know that I may be a little oversized for the boat but I could not make use of any of the foot foam or the plastic bulk head that came with the boat. My feet penetrated to the far end of the foot bumps, though they were not squeezed or compressed uncomfortably. I had to make a thin Mini-Cell foot rest of my own to paddle comfortably. All in all the Syncro 04 outfitting is on par with the best outfitting out there except for the foot brace system.

Performance: The S6F is high performance boat play boat that is surprisingly forgiving and it does everything pretty well. I was surprised to find it to be a very even cart wheeling boat despite having a lot of bow and stern rocker.

Speed: For a spud boat, The S6F has good drive down the wave into blunts and back stabs and it wants to bounce right into air blunt given a big enough wave. The boat has a good amount of planning speed and it is easy to grab catch on the fly waves with. Paddling it down river is a bit slow but this is what you expect from a boat this size. The S6F ferries easily and carries enough speed to get across eddy lines smoothly.

Slicyness: I was quite surprised to find the S6F to be a very efficient cart wheeling boat, not what I had expected from Pyranha. The boat is easy to link up ends with in holes or on eddy lines and it even stern squirts well.

Looseness: The S6F is as loose as any other play boat out there. It spins easily and seems to want to just keep going linking up more and more spins. It green grinds any fast green wave with ease .

Bounce: When you get a chance to drive the boat forward onto steep green water you can feel the boat wanting to hop forward into a nice air blunt. This boat is air capable.

In Conclusion: The S6F is a well mannered short boat that is surprisingly easy to paddle. You can almost forget about tripping over the edges and just focus on tearing up the feature you are surfing. It cart wheels too well for a Pyranha boat and isn’t shy about looping and air blunting. All in all a great all around play boat that can play anywhere. A little more foot room might be nice but maybe I should have been in the S6F 193 instead of the 192.
