The Between Leavenworth and Cashmere, The
Upper Wenatchee has a nice friendly spinning wave. The Happy wave is
a nice place to surf and is in reliably through a wide range of
water levels. This place is a favorite among rookie play boaters and
those people fleeing the crowds at Granny's on the weekends. Great
place to take in a mellow evening surf after running the river or
creeking. |
| Eddy Service: There is good eddy
service for this wave especially around 3000cfs and 6000cfs when you
can easily make your past the rocks adjacent to the wave. At other
level you may need to force your way over a few rocks to make your
way up to the wave |
| Water Levels:
2800 cfs to 7000 cfs:
For easy eddy service surfing near 3000cfs and 6000cfs is best.
Above 7000 cfs: There is something to
surf here at higher water however the eddy service degrades to a
point where it is too much work to be worth surfing especially with
other better features in down stream. |

| Difficulty: Beginners on up. This is
a pretty mellow spot on a relatively gentle stretch of river. Anyone
with a roll should be able to enjoy this wave. Be aware that the
wave is on the shallow side. |
| Driving Directions: Located just west
of Mile Post 104 (103.8) on US 2 between Peshastin and Leavenworth
below the emergency turn out. There is a parking area below the turn
out. |

| Closest Services: Leavenworth is just
a few minutes West on US 2. |
| Other Local Attractions if the play isn't
in: Climbing at Peshastin Pinnacles or up Icicle Creek. Mountain Bike on
one of the many fine trails nearby. Creeking on Icicle or Tumwater
Canyon. |
| Closest Camping: Free camping at
undeveloped sites is available west of Leavenworth around Mile Post
90 and Chiawaukum Road off of US 2. |
| Local's Tips: Granny's is usually in too
when the Happy Wave is good. |
