Doesn't that look like a friendly wave-hole?  photo: © fields

Description: Kevin Nickel says about the Much Love Hole, "This one is for the ladies". A mile by road below the Glen Avon Bridge a wide clay ledge in the river bottom creates a nice friendly wave-hole. This friendly wave-hole is in at relatively low water levels on the Molalla when most of the other play spots are either out or not that much fun. This would be a great place to learn to surf or work on your surfing skills. The hole is shallow but ledge is completely smooth and downstream is eddy large.

The Much Love Hole is just upstream of The Rock Pile. If Much Love is in, invest in playing here. If it is out head downstream to The Rock Pile.

Eddy Service: There is a large slack water eddy on river-left, downstream of the hole.
Water Levels:

Keep in mind that the gauge on the Molalla is located many miles down river in Canby close to the Willamette. The Molalla is a small drainage prone to rapid fluctuations during and after rain and/or snowmelt events. The water levels that the gauge indicates may lag significantly behind what the actual water level is on the upper river. Checking the visual gauge on the downstream side of the bridge of Feyrer Park might be a good idea to make sure that you won't be wasting your time. The Much Love Hole is in between just below four and half feet and a couple of ticks above four feet on the visual gauge.

below 3000 cfs: Check the visual gauge at Feyrer Park first.

Gauge: Molalla River at Canby
Season: October to May, during or after periods of heavy rain or snow melt
Difficulty: Anyone who can make the run down to this hole will probably be able to enjoy themselves.
Driving Directions: Make your way to the East Side of Molalla along Oregon Highway 211. Follow the signs to Feyrer Park. Cross the Bridge at Feyrer Park and drive upstream on S Dickey Prairie Road (about 4.7 miles) until you get the next public bridge across the Molalla. This Bridge is the Glen Avon Bridge. About a quarter mile upstream the Glen Avon Bridge is a reasonably good put-in. The Much Love Hole is just over a mile downstream of bridge and there is a take-out 1.7 miles downstream of the bridge at an undeveloped day-use area.
