Description:

Adding new meaning to hike-n-hole, The C-Wave on the Deschutes offers another spot to get a late summer or early fall surfing fix. The C-Wave is the first large breaking wave in the Colorado Rapid. The C-Wave is a big and extremely fast breaking wave with a very dynamic nature. Most paddlers will find their boats bouncing out of the water even while spinning. The dynamic nature of the wave tempts paddlers to throw large air moves which generally end their ride. The C-Wave is a very fast and touchy wave, any pearling or a caught edge will generally result in an instantaneous mystery move right trough the pile.

Getting to the C-Wave requires a three mile hike up the river from Deschutes Park at the Confluence of The Columbia and Deschutes River. Keep in the mind that during long days of Summer the daytime temperatures are usually in the mid-ninety degree range or hotter. So bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

***A Boater Pass is required of all paddlers year round on the Lower Deschutes River

Eddy Service:

There is no eddy service for the wave. You will have to hike after every ride.

Water Levels:

Below 5000 cfs: The wave has a lot more break and pile to it below 5000cfs. The lower the water level the better. The Deschutes rarely gets much below 4500cfs.
