Description:

Beaver Tail is a unusual pour over hole on the Lower Deschutes. It is a play spot that stays in much of the year and offer paddlers another place to throw ends especially in the early Summer when little else in the area is in. Playing Beaver Tail is all about cart wheeling and spinning since the shoulders of the hole are closed and the river-right side of the hole is flushy and unpredictable.

Beaver Tail is located on the river-right side of a small island just upstream and around the bend from the Beaver Tail Campground. This hole is the site of one of the Annual Oregon Cup Rodeos.

This hole is detested by many good play boaters because it is not as retentive or easy as they would like.

***A Boater Pass is required of all paddlers year round on the Lower Deschutes River

Eddy Service:

There is eddy service along river-right bank behind the hole if you flush out of the center of the hole you may have to catch the lower eddy and paddle back upstream. There is also an eddy on the other side of the hole behind another small island. Getting into the hole from behind the large island upstream of the hole is less reliable than from the good eddy on the river-right side of the hole.

Above 5300 cfs: Beavertail Stays in up until at least 12,000 cfs

Above 10000 cfs: Ask yourself why you aren't up the road at Trestle Hole.
